Yorkshire Sculpture Park is an extraordinary place. I've been visiting since Iwas a little girl , often with the family dog in tow ! and that was a long time ago! I've seen many changes over the years and more so on my return to visit family every couple of months. I'ts set in a beautiful part of yorkshire surrounded by awesome countryside and it lends itself to sculptures and artists to exhibit their work .
Presently exhibiting works , David Nash , an internationally acclaimed British artist known primarily for his work in wood. This exhibition is his largest ever presenting sculpture , drawings and photographs over the last forty years.
I've taken some photos myself but unfortunately could not in the Underground Gallery itself , which was a shame. I loved the simplicity of using wood ,such a natural material to speak for itself . Alongside these incredible works were simple hanging canvases of drawings using layers of charcoal as a medium .
Although I work as an illustrator I do enjoy the peace and tranquility that scupture can bestow upon us .

The weekend's haunts ......
At the weekend I headed up north to visit a couple of exhibitions and places that inspire me and could influence my work and blog. I stopped off at the Redbrick store and gallery in Yorkshire . It's a fantastic traditional old mill by Yorkshire standards that's been superbly transformed into a multi-complex store of designer shops and galleries selling just about anything and everything from retro to hand made in the art scene.
These lovely old buildings in Yorkshire just lend themselves to become gallery space . They are huge inside with fantastic, origional brick features and iron pillars .
These Heal's vintage posters caught my eye. From the 1950's they look amazing . I love the colours and the imagery. Fantastic illustrations from an era gone by .

For the last couple of days I've been in the print room working on prints . The illustration I screen printed was taken from my last project on the course. The brief was " Options" and from this I chose a book from the booklist given by the tutors. My choice was the title Best Poems On The Underground edited by Gerard Benson , Judith Chernalk &Cicely Herbert . It really is a fantastic read .
Altogether I illustrated 12 of the poems and I chose 2 to take through to print .These included
"Don't Call Alligator Long -Mouth till You Cross River" by John Agard .
and
"Goodbye" by Adrian Mitchell .
I screen printed 16 more or less of each illustration and both prints had 7 colours so thats a lot of screens to coat !Hard work but so much fun and very rewarding . Really pleased with the finished results . I've sold 2 alligator prints and im ready to mount some goodbye prints for the college shop .

Bunny delights....
I've been busy working on these great framed collaged pieces for two lovely people I follow and "tweet" with. This has been so much fun and rewarding , knowing that it gives such pleasure . My now friends - The Lovely Lapinette and The Wabbit......Fantastic peeps or rather, bunnies ....
Thats it!... Final major project begins ....
I've reached that point in my course where I'm about to start my final major project, of which this blog will now form a part . I hope you'll join me on this final journey towards achieving my degree.
This last week has been pretty busy with lectures, printing from my last project options and working on some personal projects for friends. One of the lectures that I was fortunate enough to attend was delivered by John Norris-Wood, who is currently a visting Professor at the Royal College of Art. He founded a course on Natural History illustration and ecological studies. It was one of the most memorable, awe inspiring and exciting lectures I have ever attended. not only did he use the formal presence of the lecture hall, he took the time to visit us in the studio where he was more than happy to sit on a stool and tell us the most amazing stories about wildlife and characters in life who he had met on his travels, including Winston Churchill, Bing Crosby, Louis Armstrong and many, many more. Truly amazing!!
Another lecture that held my attention was delivered by Fig Taylor, who is a Portfolio Consultant. Her advice on life after university and how to present yourself and your work to prospective clients was humorous and exceedingly informative, if anything, it has reinforced my desire to go out and engage with future clients because I'm confident that I can be successful. I was also fortunate enough to have some one to one time with her where she gave some guidance on what type of markets my work will be most suited for, which could be editorial. She also recommended that I could work in digital. This does interest me although I never want to lose that hand made, printed piece that I always come up with. Ultimately, I'd like to work both ways.
I'm now working on my final ideas for my major project and problem solving. I have a definate idea about what I want to produce for my final piece and I'm finishing my proposal which I'll hand in next week.
